Little Owl Perched In A Redwood Tree
Little owl perched in a redwood tree early in the morning.
Both little owls and redwoods are non-native to the UK. Little owls were introduced into the UK in the 1870s, first in Kent and subsequently in Northamptonshire. Little owls have rapidly colonised the UK from these initially release sites, aided by further releases. Redwoods, from California, were originally planted in the UK also in the 1800s by Victorian plant hunters. Redwoods can now be found growing throughout the UK.
