Outdoor Photography - In Conversation

I really enjoyed being interviewed by Nick Smith for the “In Conversation” feature in the latest edition of Outdoor Photography.

The interview discusses the unconventional path I took to become a full time wildlife and landscape photographer and is illuminated with some of my images of UK wildlife. The interview explores, with a brutal honesty, the challenges faced by working photographers and how I have worked to overcome them.

The interview also discusses the state of nature in the UK, which is one of the most nature depleted countries in the World. Living in a rural part of England, I have witnessed the continuing decline in what remains of the UK’s wildlife. The badgers, whose images are used to illustrate the interview, are from setts that have been culled as part of the ongoing badger cull that has seen half of England’s badgers needlessly killed in a futile and barbaric attempt to stop the spread of Bovine TB amongst cattle. As a result of this decline, I explain how the focus of my photography has, in part, shifted to documenting the importance of the urban environment as a home for wildlife.
